Luis Alberto Balladares is revered in Nicaragua, and rightfully so. Upon meeting him, I was impressed with his commanding but calm presence. He is an evangelical minister when he’s not producing or processing coffee, and he brings the same care and piety to coffee that he does his congregation. Luis Alberto believes that being attentive and intentional with every single detail is important as a philosophy and crucial to producing anything of quality, and I agree wholeheartedly. This coffee comes from a farm that produced very low quantities of coffee when Luis Alberto purchased it. He named the farm “What Was Promised,” believing that his hard work and God’s faithfulness would see the production grow. Last harvest, the farm produced 4X what it normally does, bringing that covenant to fruition.
