On our last trip before the pandemic, Andrew and I drove from our little cabin at Finca Hartmann, up the flanks of Volcan Barú circling the strawberry fields and horse pastures of Cerro Punta to the country home of Priscilla Gonzalez at Bambito Estate. She welcomed us to the farm, where we cupped coffee and walked the plantation, and then enjoyed a delicious lunch. We felt honored to visit such a scenic and well cared-for estate, and their hard work comes through in the quality of the coffee. Priscilla and Ivan are the fourth and fifth generation to tend this farm, carrying forward the heritage of excellence and kindness begun in the 1940s. The coffees we purchase from Bambito Estate are comparatively expensive, but these are among the best coffees in the world. It’s really a badge of honor.
