Sumatra Suku Batak

  • Sumatran wet-hulled coffees are in a class all by themselves. They are to coffee what Lagavulin is to whisky. And this is a strong example of what a good one can be. Grown on several small farms in the Lintong region where microclimates and soil conditions enhance coffee production from the fact that they reside on mountainsides overlooking Lake Toba, the largest volcanic crater lake in the world. As exotic as it sounds, you’ll encounter aromatics that remind you of herbs and leather and tobacco, a great outdoor adventure in the cup. Many “specialty coffee” roasters wouldn’t be caught dead with a coffee like this. But love it or hate it, there’s no denying this is a spectacularly interesting cup.
