  • Honestly I wasn’t so sure about this coffee when it hit the cupping table, but it’s turned out to be fantastic. This came from Firaol Ahmed, our Ethiopian friend in St. Louis, who bought it from Wondafrash Edema, one of our favorite producers over the past couple years. The Guji region was a part of Sidama until 2002, when it was given its own designation because of the distinct flavor profiles emerging from the area. Tirtira Goyo is the name of the town where Wondafrash built his washing station. Tirtira is an Oromo word that means “intrepid.” Wondafrash is one of 29 siblings who grew up in coffee and began his career as an exporter. When we met in Houston, his stark and serious demeanor gave way to a deserved pride in bringing these amazing coffees to the US. An intrepid man, to be sure. (photo courtesy of Wondafrash Edema)
