Norman Torres is a curious little man. Last year when I visited his farm, he bought fancy rubber boots and a new machete, and hacked away at the vegetation to give a better vista for my photos. He claimed to be taking control of the farm from his parents, but this year it seemed his mother was giving him grief as he tried to produce naturals for us. So what’s the deal with Norman? To be honest, I’m not sure. It was my intent to help him learn specialty coffee, and earn more money than he could from the commercial market. But I’ve had to question whether or not he’s taking this seriously. Nonetheless, I continue to buy the meager lots he brings to the table that have good quality. This one is a blend of two varieties, dry processed as per my request. It’s not a fruit-forward coffee, but it does strike a nice balance.
