  • I bought this coffee from an importer called Balzac Brothers, which was started in 1914 and now run by the third and fourth generation of the founders’ descendants. The coffee comes from a washing station owned by a man named Bernard Uwitije, located on Ibisi Mountain. This is in a prime coffee-growing area near Nyungwe Forest National Park, which is known for it’s chimpanzee population. The coffee was exported through Rwanda Trading Company, which is owned by Westrock Coffee in Little Rock, Arkansas. RTC exports 25% of all the coffee in Rwanda, and Westrock is a massive publicly traded corporation that continues to expand in Arkansas and into other countries around the world. Not my favorite, but good for Bernard Uwitije for taking advantage. (photo courtesy of Balzac Brothers)
