Panama Bambito Yellow Catuai Natural

  • Every year I travel to Panama to taste coffees and enjoy the company of the people who produce them, and I’ve become friends with a good many of them. It was the last place I went in 2020 before the pandemic set in, and I haven’t been out of the country since. We had to learn to do business differently, shipping samples from the farms to this old barn in Tulsa, where I tasted them in far-less-tropical environs. Nonetheless, this coffee eventually arrived on American soil and outpaces its predecessor with sour fruit aromatics and layers of sweetness and a brightness that makes the coffee feel alive on my tongue. The Yellow Catuai variety is a hybrid of Caturra and Mundo Novo coffees, two of the noble varieties of Brazil. Definitely a dessert coffee.
