Hartmann Ojo de Agua

  • This is a classic profile for a washed Caturra variety from Finca Hartmann. And it may be the end of an era for this style. As coffee leaf rust (roya) spread throughout Latin America, Caturras were particularly hard-hit, and most farms uprooted this staple crop and replanted with a disease-resistant hybrid. Call it progress, but we’ll certainly continue to see changes in cup profiles. And it’s nice to sit back with a cup and enjoy the moment for what it is, fleetingly. Sweet, with a moderate complexity, just enough acidity to feel alive, and a finish that leaves you wondering why things happen the way they do. Savor it.
