Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Gelana Abaya

  • Seven hundred smallholder farmers in the famed Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia produced this coffee and sold their individual lots to a cooperative mill called the Gelana Abaya Coffee Station. The coffee cherries were stripped of their skins and fermented for two days before being washed and dried by the sun. I bought this coffee from one of my brokers, Royal Coffee in Oakland. It is a striking cup with pristine aromatics. In fact, nowhere else in the world are coffees produced that have such strong floral fragrances, and this one keeps giving with a distinct coriander note that balances the cup and makes it unique.
