Guatemala El Tambor

  • My friend Edwin Martinez grew up farming coffee in Guatemala and then moved to the US to import that coffee. He has developed a large network of very high quality farms from Antigua to Huhuetenango, and works closely with the producers and roasters he sells to. Edwin introduced me to the owner of El Tambor, Victor Calderon, and Victor drove us to his farm in an area called Palencia, not far from Guatemala City. Victor is the caretaker of the land and the people who work for him. He supports his workers with cattle, land, and fishing. And he farms using only organic and biodynamic practices. If you’re looking for an excellent coffee produced with excessive care for the land and people, this is it.
