Thanksgiving

Did you know that the Pilgrims and Indians sat down to feast together at the first Thanksgiving and actually roasted DoubleShot Coffee right there in front of God and everybody? It's true. This holiday is steeped in coffee tradition.

Isaiah and I decided to have a contest to see who could make the best turkey out of coffee. His ground turkey is on the left and my whole bean turkey is on the right. P-lease. It's easy to see that my turkey is the freshest turkey on the planet. Not that old stale, ground turkey.

We've also pledged (Isaiah and I) to only eat vegan turkeys this year for Thanksgiving. That's right. We will not eat any turkey that has consumed meat or animal by-products (hopefully). But we sure look forward to stuffing ourselves with... stuffing... and the local avifauna.

"Art" show

Every six weeks, we switch out the art on our walls with another local artist. This time it's not going to be art so much, as it's going to be my photographs. That's right, I'm hanging a bunch of photos I've taken of coffee and whatnot.

The new "art" will go up on November 26th and I'm having a party here at the DoubleShot on 12/6 from 7p-10p. You should come. It's easy to remember: 12/6 = 2 (DoubleShot). We'll have coffee (of course), wine, snacks, and some music. We'll also be starting a silent auction for the photos, which will last until January 6, 2008.

But this is about more than photos of coffee. It's about a new program that's just started. It's called Coffee Illuminati. There's a website where you can read all about it, but basically we're looking for ways to educate you better about coffee and at the same time enable us to travel to origin more and establish more equitable relationships with the farmers. The proceeds from the sale of the photographs will go to support the Coffee Illuminati, and we hope that many of you will choose to join our group.

Read about the Coffee Illuminati here: www.CoffeeIlluminati.com

Mark it on your calendar: 12/6 from 7p-10p at DoubleShot Coffee Company

Bureaucracy

Does anyone out there live in a town where a man can work in a coffee house without having to braid his beard (or wear a "beard net")?

I'M SICK OF BUREAUCRATIC BULLSHIT!

Don't kid yourself...

The best coffee in this town right now is the Yemen Mocca Sanani at the DoubleShot.

So yeah, that's my opinion, but I would challenge you to stop for a second, smell the ground coffee before you brew it, and then the wet aroma after. It's f***ing amazing. Fruity, fruity, fruity. Reminds me of apricots, but smoother. Maybe because there's the carmelization of sugars from roasting that sweetens the brew. It definitely tastes a little over-fermented, but that's a genuinely good characteristic of Yemens. Apricots and caramel. Yum.

I NAILED the roast on it tonight. It was beautiful. One of those that goes so perfectly that when it drops out into the cooling bin, my insides jump with excitement. I can't wait to taste it.

One of my favorite things about this Yemen Mocca Sanani (and I don't have much left of it) is something you'll never experience. It's the way it feels when I roast it. It's the sound of it dropping into the roasting drum. It's the sound of it coming out of the roaster into the cooling bin. The way it feels in my hands as I comb it for defects. This is the softest bean I roast, and it sounds so silky, so velvety when it comes out. Like a warm blanket. The sound is lush and comforting, and the coffee is going to be good good good tomorrow.
You should get some.
